from The Eye of the Moon

An Unexpected Visit

“I should have helped you clean this up” Lara said looking down at her hands. He turned and looked at her. He wanted to take her in his arms, but he wasn’t sure how she’d react to it. His fear was that she was about to say goodbye, but she was dressed in only a t-shirt and boxers.
“I’m more concerned about you Lara, will you talk to me?” he asked looking at the dim light bouncing off her glistening, bloodshot eyes - she had been crying. It was the first time he saw her look so frail and vulnerable.
“You can’t get into this any deeper Cormac, I have to go to protect you.”
“Lara, they broke down my front door and ransacked my home, I’m already in deep. Even if you leave right now, they’re going to come back. No matter what I tell them, they’re going to think I’m tied to you. If you want to protect me, let me know what I’m up against.” Lara knew he was right and she had to fight her natural impulse to run. She needed to stay here and fight and as much as she didn’t want to admit it, she needed Cormac and in some small way, she knew he needed her too.
